When Registering for
Fleet:
An in-water evaluation must
be administered before any athlete can be placed in a training
group. Please contact the Head Age Group Coach, Coach
Allen Salina to receive information about the Fleet
Competitive.
For Registering for Fleet
First:
Be sure to include how
many times per week desired.
To determine correct level, please look at the class descriptions
pages. Use level that best describes the level at which the student
last swam. Please note out to side if this was last summer or if
student has been in another year round program.
If student is under age five and has not swum since last summer,
some regression is expected. To better determine actual level, keep
in mind that until age five or six, if student is out of water for
as many months as they are old (i.e., 2 months for a two year old,
etc.) they will tend to forget their "balance" in the water. If
between the ages two and three, children are also going through a
developmental stage of experiencing fear and this may influence
their relationship with the water.
To determine group or
semi-private, keep this
in mind: We strongly recommend semi-private for children
ages four and under. If group is preferred for this age
group, it is best to begin with the Parent & Child class for
beginners.
- Semiprivate is also recommended for older
children that are beginners, and those that need to learn new
strokes in a hurry (i.e., a seven year old beginning swim team in
May).
- Group is recommended for all students that can
already swim at a "C+" Level or above. Group classes are small (4:1
ratio) and the camaraderie of the group usually helps students to
advance quicker.
Getting assigned to
a specific class: When registration is received, students
will be scheduled on a first come basis. Specific class times will
be confirmed by telephone one to two weeks before session begins.
Be sure to include your other possibilities in scheduling, in case
your first choice is not available. Keep in mind the most popular
lesson times are after school, 4:30 6:30 PM during the
school year, and morning during the summer. Try to give us several
days to choose from if this is your preferred schedule.
